This is a free crochet pattern for Emma Prayer Shawl with photo tutorial in each step.  This so simple and easy to create, yet such an elegant design that is sure to complement any outfit.

Your choice of color will always determine the functionality and occasion to use the shawl with.

This is in line with the Emma pattern series. Like Emma Summer Tank Top, this triangle shawl is crocheted in 2 rows repeat.

This Emma Prayer Shawl is crocheted from top down, in triangle shape, and is crocheted in one-piece.

Size of Emma Prayer Shawl is 61” across and 30” from top to bottom corner.

Materials Needed:

Hook: 5.00MM [US H-8]

Yarn: #4 Medium Weight yarn, 100 % Acrylic

Yarn Used: Love Knots yarn, Shade 00038, 5 balls (128 meters each), approx. 640 yrds.


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain, Sc: Single CrochetDc: Double Crochet, Lp: loop,  Sp: Space,  Sk: Skip


 

Stitch Guide:

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in top of specified dc.


Gauge:

2" square = 7 sts x 3 rows of DC


Emma Prayer Shawl Instructions:

Row 1: Ch 6, (sc, ch 5, sc, ch 2, dc) in 6th ch from hook.


Row 2: Ch 5 (consider ch 3 as 1st dc and ch 2 as sp here and throughout the pattern), turn, sc in the same lp, ch 5, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, ch 5, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp.


Row 3: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, ch 3, sc in next 5 ch sp, ch 3, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, ch3, sc in next 5 ch sp, ch 3, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp.


Row 4: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, ch 3, sc in next 3 ch sp, ch 5, sc in next 3 ch sp, ch 3, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, ch 3, sc in next 3 ch sp, ch 5, sc in next 3 ch sp, ch 3, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp.


Row 5: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, [ch 1, 4 dc in next 3 ch sp, ch 1, dc in next 5 ch sp, ch 1, 4 dc in next 3 ch sp, ch 1], (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, rep [to] once more, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp. [4 sets of 4 dc group]


Row 6: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, [ch 3, *sc in next ch sp, ch 5, sk next 4 dc, sc in next ch sp*, ch 3, sk next dc, rep *to* once, ch 3], (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, rep [to] once more, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp.


Row 7: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, [ch 1, 4 dc in next 3 ch sp, ch 1, *dc in next 5 ch sp, ch 1, 4 dc in next 3 ch sp, ch 1*, rep *to* across], (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, rep [to] once more, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp. [6 sets of 4 dc group]


Row 8: Ch 5, turn, sc in the same lp, [ch 3, sc in next ch sp, ch 5, sk next 4 dc, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, *sk next dc, sc in next ch sp, ch 5, sk next 4 dc, sc in next ch sp, ch 3*, rep *to* across], (sc, ch 5, sc) in next 5 ch sp, rep [to] once more, (sc, ch 2, dc) in last lp.


Row 9-48 and Onwards: Rep row 7 and row 8, gradually increasing the count of 4 dc group.


Last Row (Around): Ch 1, turn, 3 sc in the same lp, *[(dc, picot, ch 1) 3 times, dc] in next 3 ch sp, sc in next 5 ch sp, across up to the point of the shawl and in the other side up to the last lp but having 3 sc in last lp corner.

On the upper side of the shawl, ch 3, *sc in next dc post, ch 3, sk next dc post, sc in next dc post, ch 3*, rep *to* across, but put sc at the middle of the shawl, ch 3, sk next dc post, sc in next dc post, ch 3, rep *to* across, sl st in 1st sc to join.

Do not cut, continue to upper edging.


Upper edging: Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st, *ch 3, sk next 3 ch sp, sc in next sc, rep * across.

Fasten Off.
