Here is the photo tutorial for a simple Crochet Granny Square for beginners.

 This granny square stitch tutorial is for all beginners out there who want to learn how to crochet a granny square.

As a beginner, this simple crochet granny square is the best way to start by making several joined squares to create afghan blanket, scarf, tote bag, or as simple as table top decoration for your home.

This is also a great way to use up your scrap yarns.


Terms Used

Ch: Chain

Sl St: Slip Stitch

Dc: Double Crochet

Sp / Lp : Space  / Loop


Crochet Granny Square Instructions

Ch4, sl st in 1st chain from hook to form a ring.



Round 1: Ch 6 (consider ch 3 as 1st dc and ch 3 sp), [(3dc, ch3) 3 times, 2dc] in the same sp, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 2: Sl st in next 3ch sp, Ch 6 (consider as 1st dc and ch3 sp), 3dc in the same sp, ch1, [3dc-ch3-3dc in next 3ch sp, ch1] 3 times, 2dc in 1st 3ch sp, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 3: Sl st in next 3ch sp, Ch 6 (consider as 1st dc and ch3 sp), 3dc in the same sp, ch1, 3dc in next 1ch sp, [3dc-ch3-3dc in next 3ch sp, ch1, 3dc in next 1ch sp] 3 times, 2dc in 1st 3ch sp, sl st in 1st dc to join.
