Sweet Heart Shawl

This Sweet Heart Shawl is a shawl with a chain of hearts, free crochet pattern for beginners with photo tutorial in each step.



This Sweet Heart Shawl is light enough to keep in the purse for an impromptu dinner date after work and warm enough to keep you comfortable in a semi formal setting.

Size of Sweet Heart Shawl after blocking is 56” across and 28” from top to bottom corner.

To achieve best results, make sure to block the shawl so that the heart shapes will be more prominent.

Needed:

Hook: Stainless Hook US F5  /  3.75MM

Thread: Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Thread Fashion 3 – Scarlet, 3 balls, 450 yards


Terms Used:

All terms used are in US terminology.

Ch: Chain     ;     Sc: Single Crochet      ;       Dc: Double Crochet     ;      Sl st: Slip Stitch     ;     Sh: Shell    ;    Rep: Repeat


Stitch Guide:

Shell: dc, ch1, dc , ch1, dc in next sc

Dc2tog: (Yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook) 2 times, Yarn over the hook, draw through all 3 loops on hook: dc2-tog made.

Note: Pattern say to work “sc in next sh” means you have to work sc in 2nd dc st of next shell st.

 

Gauge:

4"  -  21 sts / 8 rows of dc's


Sweet Heart Shawl Instructions:

Row 1: Ch4, dc, ch3, 2dc in 4th ch from hook.


Row 2: Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, ch3, sk next dc, sc in next 3ch sp, ch3, sk next dc, 2dc in last dc.


Row 3: Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, ch3, sk next dc, sc in next 3ch sp, ch5, sc in next 3ch sp, ch3, sk next dc, 2dc in last dc.


Row 4: Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, ch3, sk next dc, sc in next 3ch sp, ch5, sc in next 5ch sp, ch5, sc in next 3ch sp, ch3, sk next dc, 2dc in last dc.


Row 5:  Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, ch3, sk next dc, sc in next 3ch sp, ch5, sc in next 5ch sp, sh in next sc, sc in next 5ch sp, ch5, sc in next 3ch sp, ch3, sk next dc, 2dc in last dc.

Row 25-34: Repeat row 15 – row 24 but this time having 5 hearts aligned vertically.



Row 35-44: Repeat row 15 – row 24 but this time having 7 hearts aligned vertically.

Row 45-54: Repeat row 15 – row 24 but this time having 9 hearts aligned vertically.

Row 55-63: Repeat row 15 – row 23 but this time having 11 hearts aligned vertically.

"You may repeat row 15 – row 24 according to your desired length".


Row 64: Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, ch1, sc in next 3ch sp, (ch3, sc in next 5ch sp) across, end w/ ch1, 2dc in last dc.


Row 65 and edging: Ch3, turn, dc in the same st, (sl st in next sc, ch3, dc in the same st) across, 


 sl st in last dc, continue to sides, (ch2, dc in the same st, sl st in joint st) across, 


corner point, work ch2 - dc - sl st  in the same st, continue to sides, 


(ch2, dc in the same st, sl st in joint st) across, end w/ sl st.

Cut off and weave in ends. Block the Sweet Heart Shawl.
