This is a free crochet bag pattern for a shell bag with photo tutorial in each step.


This boho bag is a great project for beginner's and it can be done in one day. 

In this free crochet pattern I used this Chain and Shell stitch Combination, please click here for stitch tutorial. This pattern is crochet in round and from bottom up.

Hook: H/8 - 5.00MM

Red Heart - 218 grams of Super Saver color blue or your desired color (403 yards)

or 280 grams of Lanalon yarn (3 yarns held together / Philippine Yarn)


Stitch Guide

Shell St: 5 Double Crochet in specified st


Gauge

4" - 18 stitches  : 13 rows (single crochet) 

Size of the Shell Bag : Width: 15"    X    Height: 11.5"


Terms Used

Ch : Chain Stitch

Sc : Single Crochet

Sl st : Slip Stitch

Dc: Double Crochet

Tog: Together

Rep : Repeat


Shell Bag Instructions

Round 1: Magic crochet, 6 sc in magic crochet, end w/ sl st in 1 st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch1, 2sc in the same st, (2sc in next st) around, end w/ sl st in 1 st sc to join. ( 12 sc )


Round 3: Ch1, sc in the same st, 3 dc in next st,  (sc in next st, 3 dc in next st) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 4: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), 3 dc in the same st, sk next  dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, (shell st in next sc, sk next dc,  sc in next dc, sk next dc) around, dc in next st to complete the 1st shell, end w/sl st in 1st dc  to join. (6 shell st)


Round 5: Note: In this round, we will learn here how to increase shell st. Ch1, sc in the same st, 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc, (sk next dc, sc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc) around, skip next dc,  end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 6: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), 3 dc in the same st, sk next  dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, (shell st in next sc, sk next 2dc,  sc in next dc, sk next 2dc, shell st in next sc, sk next  dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc,) around, dc in next st to complete the 1st shell, end w/sl st in 1st dc  to join. (12 shell st)


Round 7: Ch1, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, ( sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 8: Note: Again in this round, we will learn here how to increase shell st. Ch3, 3dc in the same st, sk next dc, (sc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk 2 dc, shell st in next sc, sk next dc)  around, sc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next st to complete 1st shell, end w/ sl st 1st dc to join.


Round 9: Ch1, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc, (sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc) around, sc in next dc, sk next 2dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2dc, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. (18 shell st)



Round 10: Ch3, 3dc in the same st, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, (sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc) around, dc in next st to complete 1st shell, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.

Round 11: Ch1, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc, ( sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, shell st in next sc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 12:   Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each st around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.

Round 13-14:   Repeat Round 12


Round 15:   Repeat Round 10 

Round 16:   Repeat Round 11 

Round 17:   Repeat Round 10


Round 18-20:   Repeat Round  12

Round 21-23:   Repeat Round  10, 11, 10

Round 24-26:   Repeat Round  12

Round 27-28:   Repeat Round  10, 11, 10

Round 29-31:   Repeat Round  12

Round 32-34:   Repeat Round  10, 11, 10 

Shell Bag Handle Instructions


Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the same st, (sc in next st) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st, (sc in next st) 19 times, Ch 40 ( option: 70ch for longer handle)  for handle foundation chain, sk 17 sts, sc in next st, (sc in next st) 36 times, ch 41 ( option: 70ch for longer handle) for handle foundation chain, , sk 17 sts, sc in rem sts, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 3: Ch 3 (consider as 1 st dc), (dc in next st) 17 times, 3 dc tog in next 3 sts ( dc decrease / corner of handle), (dc in next st) 39 times, 3 dc tog in next 3 sts ( dc decrease / corner of handle), (dc in next st) 33 times, 3 dc tog in next 3 sts ( dc decrease / corner of handle), (dc in next st) 39 times, 3 dc tog in next 3 sts ( dc decrease / corner of handle), (dc in next st) across, end w/ sl st in 1st dc.


Round 4: Sl st in each st's, end w/ sl st in 1st sl st to join.

Fasten Off.


Inner Handle Instructions:

Round 1: Attach yarn in any st, ch3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in each st around but having 3dc-tog on both corners as shown on photo below, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.

Round 2: Sl st in each dc around, end w/ sl st in 1st sl st to join.

Fasten Off.
