This is a free crochet pattern for Petunia Coaster with photo tutorial in each step. These coasters are so basic and traditional yet diverse in design that when created in a different color, it tends to take on the mood of the color choice.

Girlie's Crochet

It is designed to be elegant with the intent to be casual also. 

Inspired by a popular Shell Blanket in Ravelry.

Finished coaster measurement is 4 inches square.

Approximately 5 pcs of coaster in 1 ball of Aunt Lydia's Fashion Crochet #3.

This is crocheted in round from center to outside the square.

Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet, Dc: Double Crochet,  Sp: Space,  Sk: Skip


Materials Needed:

Hook: Stainless Hook 00/3.25 MM

Thread: Aunt Lydia's Fashion Crochet Size 3,

White, approximately 30 yrds.


Stitch Guide:

V-st: dc, ch 1, dc

V-st cluster (v-st cl): dc, ch 1, dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1, dc

Shell (sh): 7 dc in specified space


Gauge:

Coaster completed pattern: 4 inches square


Petunia Coaster Instructions:

Round 1: Ch 5 (consider ch 3 as dc and ch sp), [(dc, ch 1) 7 times] in the 5th ch from hook, sl st in 1st dc. 


Round 2: Ch 1, [sc in next ch sp, sk next dc, sh in next ch sp, sk next dc] around,  end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 3: Ch 4 (consider as 1st dc and ch sp here and throughout), (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1, dc) in the same st, [ch 5, sk next sh, v-st cl in next sc] around, end w/ ch 2, dc in 1st dc to join (ch 2 and dc consider as 1st 5 ch sp here and throughout).


Round 4: Ch 1, sc in 4th dc of sh below {Note: make sure sc goes around ch 5 sp, securing ch 5 sp together w/ the 4th dc of sh below here and throughout}, sh in next ch sp, sc in next 3 ch sp, sh in next ch sp, [sc in next 4th dc of sh group below, sh in next ch sp, sc in next 3 ch sp, sh in next ch sp] around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 5: Ch 4, dc in the same st, ch 5, sk next sh, v-st cl in next sc, ch 5, sk next sh, [v-st in next sc, ch 5, sk next sh, v-st cl in next sc, ch 5, sk next sh] around, end w/ ch 2, dc in 1st dc to join.


Round 6: Ch 1, hdc in 4th dc of sh below, 2 hdc in next dc post, [*2 hdc in next v-st*, 5 hdc in next 5 ch sp {Note: make sure  3rd hdc goes around ch 5 sp, securing ch 5 sp together w/ the 4th dc of sh below}, rep *to* once, 5 hdc in next 3 ch sp, rep *to* once] around, 2 hdc in next 2 ch sp, end w/sl st in 1st hdc to join.


Round 7: (Ch 2, sk next st, sl st in next st) around. Fasten Off.
