Girlie's Crochet


I found this Handbag Pouch pattern on line, and after I posted it, a lot of my crochet friends were asking for the pattern. Since it was not my own pattern and I did not own it, I had difficulty deciding how I was going to go about posting the pattern. To give proper credit to the pattern owner, I got the pattern HERE. 

 In order to accommodate everyone,  I translated it into English written pattern with photo tutorial in each step.

In the instructions below, I made it bigger since, I wanted a shoulder bag and not a handbag, so I adjusted some stitches. If you want the shoulder bag, follow the BOLD [ bracket ] .

Materials Needed:

Yarn Weight: DK Weight cotton yarn

Yarn: 100% Cotton yarn (8ply) 250 grams

Hook: 4.00 MM /  US - 6

Cord: Handle insert

Gina Cloth: Or ay cloth for lining

Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet, Pc: Popcorn, 

Cl: Cluster, Sl st: Slip Stitch, Sp: Space,  Sk: Skip, Beg: Beginning,


Stitch Guide:

Beg Cl: Chain 2, yarn over, insert hook in specified sp and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all 2 loops. Beg Cl made.

 Cluster: (Yarn over, insert hook in specified sp and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through first 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops. Cl made.

 Beg Dc2tog: Chain 2, yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, Yarn over the hook, draw through all 2 loops on hook: Beg Dc2-tog made.

Dc2tog: (Yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook) 2 times, Yarn over the hook, draw through all 3 loops on hook: Beg Dc2-tog made.

Popcorn: Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch; drop the loop from your hook; insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group; grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Popcorn made.


Gloria Pouch Bottom Instructions:

Round 1: Ch 37 [53], sc in 4th ch from hook, (ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch) 16 times, ch 2, sl st in last ch to join. [18 – loops] [26 – loops]

Round 2: Sl st in the same lp, ch 2, dc in the same ch sp (consider as beg cl), (ch 1, sk next st, cl in next 1ch sp) 16 [24] times, ch 1, sk next st, work (cl,  ch 1) 4 times in last 1 ch sp, sk next st, cl in next 1 ch sp, (ch 1, sk next st, cl in next 1ch sp) 15 [23] times, ch 1, sk next st, work (cl,  ch 1) 3 times in last 1 ch sp, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. [40 cl] [56 – cl]


Round 3: Sl st in next 1 ch sp, beg cl, ch 1, cl in the same sp, *ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp* rep *to* 16 [24] times, [ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp] twice, rep *to* once, rep [to] once, rep *to* 15 [23] times, [ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp] 3 times, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. [46 cl] [62 – cl]


Round 4: Sl st in next 1 ch sp, beg cl in the same sp, ch 1, sk next cl, *ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp*, rep * to * 17  [25] times, [ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp] 3 times, rep *to* 17 [25] times, rep [to] twice, ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. [52 cl] [68 – cl]


Round 5: Sl st in next 1 ch sp, beg cl in the same sp, *ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp*, rep * to * 18 [26] times, [ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp] 3 times, rep *to* 20 [28] times, rep [to] 3 times, ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. [58 cl] [74 – cl]


Round 6: Sl st in next 1 ch sp, beg cl in the same sp, *ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp*, rep * to * 19 [27] times, [ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp] 3 times, rep *to* 23 [31] times, rep [to] 3 times, rep *to* 3 times, ch 1, sk next cl, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. [64 cl] [80 – cl]


Round 7: Sl st in next 1 ch sp, beg cl in the same sp, *ch 1, sk next cl, cl in next 1 ch sp*, rep * to * 20 [28] times, ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  rep *to* 3 times, ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp, rep *to* 27 [35] times, ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp,  rep *to* 3 times, ch 1, sk next cl, cl - ch 1 - cl in next 1 ch sp, rep *to* 6 times, ch 1, sk next cl, end w/ sl st in 1st cl to join. Round 2: Beg dc2-tog, [dc in next dc] 8 times, dc2tog in next 2 dc, ch 1, sk next dc, pc in next dc, ch 3, pc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, *dc2tog in next 2 dc, [dc in next dc] 8 times, dc2tog in next 2 dc, ch 1, sk next dc, pc in next dc, ch 3, pc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc2tog to join. [9 pc] [11 pc] 


Round 3: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in each st around, having 1 dc in 1 ch sp and 4 dc in 3 ch sp and sk cl st, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join. 


Round 4: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), dc2-tog in next 2 dc, ch 1, sk next dc, pc in next dc, ch 3, pc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, dc2tog in next 2 dc, *[dc in next dc] 8 times, dc2-tog in next 2 dc, ch 1, sk next dc, pc in next dc, ch 3, pc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, dc2tog in next 2 dc, rep * around, [dc in next dc] 7 times, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 5: Repeat round 3

Round 13: Repeat round 3, do not cut, continue to Edging.

Round 20: Repeat round 4

Round 21: Repeat round 3, do not cut, continue to Edging.

Gloria Pouch Edging Instructions:


Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the same st, ch 1, sk next dc, (sc in next dc,ch 1, sk next dc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch 1, sc in next 1 ch sp, ch 1, sk next sc, (sc in next 1 ch sp,ch 1, sk next sc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.

Round 3: Repeat round 2, Fasten Off.


Handle Cover

Row 1: From last completed sc, sk 10 [14] - 1 ch sp, attach yarn in next 1 ch sp, ch 4 (consider as 1st dc and ch 1 sp), dc in next 1 ch sp, *ch 1, dc in next 1 ch sp, rep * 25 (29) times. ( 27 [31] dc)


Row 2: Ch 4 (consider as 1st dc and ch 1 sp), turn, sk next 1 ch sp, dc in next dc, *ch 1, sk next 1 ch sp, dc in next 1 ch sp, rep * 25 (29) times.

Row 3-4: Rep row 2, measure at least 1/2 foot tail, the cut the yarn, set aside.

Other side handle cover: Skip 9 [13] - 1 ch sp, attach yarn in next 1 ch sp, rep 1-4.

Shoulder bag

Handle 

Row 1: Ch 7, turn, sc in the same st, sc in each of next sts across. [6 sc]

Row 2 - 148: Ch 1, turn, sc in the same st, sc in each of next sts across. [6 sc], before cutting the yarn, leave twice the length or row 1-148, cut off.

Attach row 148 to row 1 to join and create circle, set aside.

Join the cord together to create a circle. Put the cord inside the handle, then close using your tapestry needle.

Closing the Handle Cover

Using tapestry, put the handle inside then attach row 4 of handle cover to round 3 of edging across. Fasten Off.

Fasten Off.

Optional: Attach lining.
