Customized Preemie Beanie

This is a free crochet pattern on how to Customize Preemie Beanie. This pattern was used in Crochet Lovers In The  Philippines outreach program. 

This preemie beanie is crocheted in round and from top (crown) down (ear).

Pattern is made out of dc and fpdc, an excellent pattern for beginners who wants to advance their knowledge in crochet.

Finished beanie measurement is –

Height (crown to ear) 4”  x  Width (diameter) 5” , can fit to a preemie baby.

Materials Used: 

Yarn: Gantsilyo Guru Milk Cotton Mini, approximately 30 grams

or any Light weight (#3) cotton yarn 

Hook: 4.00 MM

Tape Measure

Scissor

Beanie Sizing Chart


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Sl St: Slip Stitch, Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet,  Hdc: Half Double Crochet,  Sp: Space,  Sk: Skip


Instructions: 

Round 1: Make a slip knot, Ch 4 (consider ch 3 as 1st dc), 11 dc in 4th ch from hook, sl st in 1st dc to join. (12 dc)


Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in the same st and in each st around, sl st in 1st dc to join. (24 dc)


Round 3: Ch 2, dc in the same st, 2 dc in next st, [dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] around, sl st in 1st dc to join. (36 dc)


Round 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in the same st, [dc in next st] twice, *2 dc in the same st, [dc in next st] twice*, rep *to* around, sl st in 1st dc to join. (48 dc)


We are going to use hat sizing chart. We have to measure our project, since our beanie is in the size range, of 3 to 3.5 in diameter, we will proceed to next round.

If the measurement of yours is not met, you have to increase the round until you reach the said size of the crown. Just add 12 dc in each round. This method applies to all beanie or hat pattern.

 


Round 5: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), 2 dc in the same st, sk next 2 ts, [3 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts] around, sl st in 1st dc to join. (16 – 3dc sets)


Round 6: Ch 3, (dc, fpdc) in the same st, sk next 2 dc, [(2dc, fpdc) in the same st, sk next 2 dc] around, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 7: Sl st in next 2 sts, ch 3, (dc, fpdc) in the same st, sk next 2 st, [(2dc, fpdc) in the same st, sk next 2 dc] around, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 8-12: Repeat round 7

Measure the height of the beanie, check your beanie, according to our sizing chart, preemie beanie height is 4.5 inches. Let’s proceed to the next round.


Round 13: Ch 3, turn, (dc, fpdc) in the same st, sk 2 sts, [(2 dc, fpdc) in next st] around, sl st in 1st dc to join.

Round 14: Repeat round 7

Now, we will check the diameter of the beanie, get the inner measurement of the beanie. Hat circumference is 10-11 inches, we have a diameter of 5”. 

Round 15: Ch 1, hdc in the same st and in each sts around, sl st in 1st hdc to join.you
