Crochet Abbreviations

Here are some of crochet abbreviations that you can find in any crochet patterns. Familiarization of these crochet abbreviations will help you a lot (like me) in reading crochet pattern.  

bal ............................... balance  

bl or blk ............................. block

bpdc ....... back post double crochet

ch .................................... chain

dc ........................ double crochet

dec .............................. decrease

d tr ........................ double treble

fpdc ....... front post double crochet

h dc .............. half double crochet

inc .............................. increase

incl ............................ inclusive

lp .................................... loop

p ..................................... picot

pc st ................... popcorn stitch

rnd ................................ round

rep ................................ repeat

sc ....................... single crochet

hdc .............. half double crochet

sk .................................... skip

sl st ........................... slip stitch

sp ................................... space

st (s) ....................... stitch ( es )

tog .............................. together

tr or tr c ............... treble crochet

tr tr ...................... treble treble



* (asterisk) ...... Repeat the instructions following the asterisk as many as specified.

** Used for a second set of repeats within one set of instructions.

( ) Repeat instructions in parenthesis as many times as specified. For example: "(5dc in next sp, sc in next sp) twice" means to work all that is in parenthesis 2 times.
