Girlie's Crochet

A free crochet pattern that will ease your newborn baby's transition from the protective womb into a cozy cocoon they will surely warm up to.

This will keep them swaddled and yet make it convenient for anyone to pick and admire the baby. Tangle free is hassle free.

This is worked in the round from bottom (feet) up (shoulder).

This is a nice addition to your baby's wardrobe.

Size of the newborn cocoon is

Circumference – 20 1/2”  x  Length – 17”

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet, BPDC: Back Post Double Crochet,  Sl st: Slip Stitch, Sk: Skip,  Sh: Shell st, Beg: Beginning

 

Materials Needed:

Hook: 5.50MM [US I- 9]

Yarn Weight: #4, Worsted yarn

Yarn Used: Caron Simply Soft yarn, Persimmon 9754, 300 yards

Tapestry needle for weaving ends.


Gauge:

2" Square: 7 sts x 3R of DC's


Stitch Guide:

Shell st (sh): 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in specified st

V-st: dc, ch 1, dc in specified st

Back Post Double Crochet (Bpdc): Yarn over the hook, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. [Bpdc made]

Beg Dc3tog: Ch2, sk next ch or bpdc, draw up a loop in next ch or bpdc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over the hook, draw through all 2 loops on hook. [Beg Dc3tog made].

Dc2tog: Yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc or bpdc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over the hook, sk next sc or bpdc3tog , draw up a loop in next dc or bpdc3tog, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over the hook, draw through all 3 loops on hook. [Dc2tog made].

Beg Bpdc3tog: Ch1, Insert hook from back to front to back around post of completed dc3tog and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, ch 1, yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. [Beg Bpdc3tog made]

Ylah Baby Cocoon Instructions:

Round 1: Magic crochet, 8 sc in magic crochet, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc here and throughout the pattern), dc in the same st, 2 dc in each of next st around, sl st in 1st dc to join. [16 dc]


Round 3: Rep round 2. [32 dc]

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sk next dc, sh in next dc, sk next dc, *sc in next dc, sk next dc, sh in next dc, sk next dc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [8 sh]


Round 5: Sl st in next dc, ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in next dc, sh in next sh, dc in next dc, *dc2tog, dc in next dc, sh in next sh, dc in next dc, rep * around, complete the 1st dc2tog (see stitch guide).


Round 6: Beg bpdc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next sh, (bpdc in next dc) twice, *bpdc3tog in next dc-dc2tog-dc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next sh, (bpdc in next dc) twice, rep * around, complete 1st bpdc3tog (see stitch guide).


Round 7: Sl st in next dc, ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), (dc in next dc) twice, sh in next v-st, (dc in next dc) twice, *dc2tog, (dc in next dc) twice, sh in next v-st, (dc in next dc) twice, rep * around, complete the 1st dc2tog (see stitch guide).
