Free easy crochet scarf pattern with photo tutorial in each step.

This is an easy and free crochet pattern for Glenda Scarf using fan stitch.

A great project for beginners with photo tutorial in each step.

I used basic stitches like, ch, dc and picot in this project.

Finished Scarf measurements:  5”  x   60”

Material Needed

Hook: US-G  6/4.00MM

Yarn Weight: DK, Light Worsted

Local Yarn: Dyed yarns 6ply, 200 grams

Tapestry Needed: For weaving ends

Stitch Guide

Picot:  Ch3, sl st in top of specified st.

Bpdc: Yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of specified st and draw up a lp, yarn over and draw through 2 lps on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 lps on hook. For photo tutorial please click here.


Terms Used

Ch: Chain  ;  Sl St: Slip Stitch  ;  Dc: Double Crochet  ;  

Bpdc: Back Post Double Crochet  ;  Sk: Skip  ;  Sp: Space

Ch5,  sl st in 1stst to form a ring.

Row 1: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), 2dc-ch2-3dc in the ring.


Row 2: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch1, sk next 2dc, dc-ch4-dc in 2ch sp, ch1, sk 2dc, 3dc in last dc.


Row 3: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch1,sk next 2dc, dc in next dc, 7dc in next 4ch sp, dc in next dc, ch1, sk next 2dc, 3dc in last dc.


Row 4: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch1,sk next 2dc, (dc in next dc, picot) 8 times, dc in next dc, ch1, sk next 2dc, 3dc in last dc.


Row 5: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch2, sk next 2dc,bpdc in next dc, (ch3, sk next dc, bpdc in next dc) 4 times, ch2, sk 2dc, 3dc in last dc.


Row 6: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch1, sk next 2dc, dc-ch4-dc in next 2ch sp, sk next bpdc, sc in next 3ch sp, (ch3, sk next bpdc, sc in next 3ch sp) 3 times, sk next bpdc, dc-ch4-dc in next 2ch sp, ch1, sk 2dc, 3dc in last dc.

1st Corner Shaping - put marker in corner for edging purposes

Row 10: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), turn, 2dc in the same st, ch1, sk next 2dc and bpdc, *sc in next 3ch sp, (ch3, sc in next 3ch sp) 3 times, dc-ch4-dc in next 2ch sp, rep * once more, ch1, sk 2dc, 3dc in last dc.

 sl st in next corner dc. Do not cut, continue to edging.


Glenda Scarf Edging


Edging Round 1: Ch1, 3sc in the same st, 2sc in the next dc post, (sc in next joined st, 2sc in next dc post) around but having 3sc in each of next 3 corners, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Edging Round 2: Ch1, sc in the same st, sc in each of next 2sc, picot, (sc in each of next 6sc, picot) around but having 3sc in 4 corners, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Fasten off and weave in ends.
