This Gina Spring Poncho Top for kids is an easy and free crochet pattern with photo tutorial in each step. This poncho will be a great skirt during summer too.

Laying flat measurements: Upper - 11.5"  ;  Lower - 21"  ;  Length - 6.5"


Stitches used in this poncho top are only chain, double crochet and picot that even beginners can make just follow the step-by-step instructions below.

This Gina Spring Poncho Top is so easy to modify according to your size. All you have to do is make a chain, wrap it around your shoulder and then count your stitches; it should be multiple of 6 sts.

Every set of 6 stitches is equivalent to number of fan stitches. Just follow the instructions and you will finish this spring poncho top in no time.

Needed

Hook: Stainless Hook  2  /  2.25MM

Thread: Monaco Thread #8 - 2 balls (350 meters) 

You may substitute Aunt Lydia's crochet thread #10 

Tapestry Needle for weaving ends

Gina Spring Poncho Instructions

Multiple of 6sts (20 sets)

Chain 140, sl st in 1st st, be careful not to twist.

Round 1: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in the same st, (ch1, sk next ch, dc in next st) twice, ch1, sk next ch, *2dc in next st, (ch1, sk next ch, dc in next st) twice, ch1, sk next ch rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join. [20 sets – 2dc in the same st]


Round 2: Ch4 (consider as 1st dc and 1ch sp), *dc in next dc, ch1, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.

 


Round 3: Ch4 (consider as 1st dc and 1ch sp), dc in next dc, ch1, (2dc in next dc, ch1, sk next 1ch sp) twice, * (dc in next dc, ch1, sk next 1ch sp) twice, (2dc in next dc, ch1, sk next 1ch sp) twice, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.

 


Round 4: Ch4 (consider as 1st dc and 1ch sp), *dc in next dc, ch1, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 5: Ch1, sc in next 1ch sp, *ch5, sk next dc - 1ch sp - dc, sc in next 1ch sp, rep * around, ch2, dc in 1st sc to join.



Round 5: Ch1, sc in the same dc post, 8dc in next 5ch sp, sc in next 5ch sp, *ch5, sc in next 5ch sp, 8dc in next 5ch sp, sc in next 5ch sp, rep * around, ch2, dc in next 5ch sp.

 


Round 6: Ch1, sc in the dc post, dc in next dc, (picot, dc in next dc) 7 times, *sc in next 5ch sp, dc in next dc, (picot, dc in next dc) 7 times, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 7: Ch8 (consider as 1st dc and ch5 sp), sk next 2 picot, sc in next picot, ch5, sk next picot, sc in next picot, ch5, sk next 2 picot, *dc in next sc, sk next 2 picot, sc in next picot, ch5, sk next picot, sc in next picot, ch5, sk next 2 picot, rep * around, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 8: Sl st in next 2sts of 5ch sp, ch1, sc in the same sp, 8dc in next 5ch sp, sc in next 5ch sp, *ch5, sc in next 5ch sp, 8dc in next 5ch sp, sc in next 5ch sp, rep * around, ch2, dc in next 5ch sp.

Round 9: Ch1, sc in the same dc post, dc in next dc, (picot, dc in next dc) 7 times, *sc in next 5ch sp, dc in next dc, (picot, dc in next dc) 7 times, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.

Round 10: Rep round 7


Round 11: Repeat round 8 but having 9dc instead of 8dc in each sp’s.


Round 12: Repeat round 9 but having 8 picot instead of 7.


Round 13: Ch8 (consider as 1st dc and ch5 sp), sk next 2 picot, (sc in next picot, ch5, sk next 2picot) twice, *dc in next sc, ch5, (sk next 2 picot, sc in next picot, ch5) twice, sk next 2 picot, rep * around, sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 14 and Onwards: Repeat round 11-13. Repeat this round according to your length poncho desire, end with round 12 (serve as edging).


Fasten off and weave in ends.


Upper Edging

Attach thread in any 1ch sp, ch1, hdc in the same sp, hdc in next st, (hdc in next 1ch sp, hdc in next st) around but having picot in every 6th hdc, end w/ sl st in 1st hdc to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Spring Poncho String

Ch4, 2dc in 4th ch from hook, ch3, sl st in the same st, (ch3-2dc-ch3-sl st) twice in the same st, make a chain according to your desired length, enough to make a knot and a ribbon.


2dc in 4th ch from hook, ch3, sl st in the same st, (ch3-2dc-ch3-sl st) twice in the same st,

(ch3, sk 3ch, sl st in next ch) across the chain, end w/ sl st in first flower.


Fasten off and weave in ends.
